Stacy Bare is an Army Veteran that after experiencing the wreckage of war, returning home and not feeling like himself, decided to do something about it. In an effort to recreate a more positive experience with the war torn countries he fought in, and knowing about the healing nature of the outdoors, Stacy decided to head back to war torn countries to experience them in a new light and help others do the same. What started as a personal journey has turned into a project called, Adventure Not War. The goal of Adventure Not War is to ski and adventure in all the places where Stacy fought, cleaned up after war, or was supposed to go to war and bring a few friends with him, but also to capture their adventures and share them with soldiers and individuals worldwide to help them create a new lens and new experience around war torn countries.
On today's show Stacy joins Lucia to talk about his experience at war, coming home and the passion and purpose behind Adventure Not War. Stacy also shares how it has changed his life and will change others as well. Sometimes the healing power of nature and adventure goes a long way. Find out more now on WellSeekers! For many of us with school-aged children, the approach of summer break can bring up many emotions. As the mother of a very energetic seven year old boy, a big part of me is really excited to have him home for two and a half months so that we can have different adventures and experiences together. I’m excited to have the gift of time to go to the beach; to museums; on hikes; picnic lunches; and to spend time with extended family and friends. At the same time, another part of me feels intimidated by the lack of structure that no school brings, and the idea of SO MUCH TIME to fill. We love our kids to death, and the time we spend with them can be so fulfilling and satisfying. At the same time, for many of us there is also physical tiredness that comes with parenting, and also the emotional exhaustion of constantly relating to another person all day long. That is why this is a good time to anticipate and plan not just for our children’s needs over the summer, but for our own self care needs as well. As the saying goes, and I always think of parenting when I hear this, we can’t pour from an empty cup.
Summer isn't as always as stress-free as we all hope for, especially for parents. No matter your situation, (married, single, working, not working,) summer with kids can sometimes be even more stressful than the school year.
On today's show Lucia talks to Licensed Clinical Social Worker and parent, Jillian Dominick about simple and accessible ways to have a summer that is less stressful and filled with more fun, health and happiness. Ever want to boost your mood and feel better fast? Me too. We all have our down times or days in life. I have had times and days where it has seemed impossible to lift my mood. When I can remember this old wise formula and take a small action despite my mood, I always feel better ---sometimes even great.
Music Therapy Monday is a song that asks that question! Would you be happier in a different relationship, or do you see your ex and even though you love them, know it's not the right relationship? Sometimes through song we have the chance to reflect on our own life situations, so if you're in a relationship or thinking of an ex, check out the song below and listen to what your heart says and how it may relate to you!
Happy listening and seeking! |
