A Word From Our Founder
As one of the founders of this mission, I can tell you I have been right where you are in your journey. I have had days where life tossed me major curve balls in the form of death, intense loss and tragedies that challenged my health and happiness. In those times instead of being compassionate, nurturing my own self care and looking for support, I relied on old habits to try and support my mental and emotional state, that were anything but healthy and lead me down dangerous paths in the forms of eating disorders and addictions. However, when going through an especially difficult series of hard times in my personal life and then also being diagnosed with multiple autoimmune disorders, I realized I needed to fix my relationship with so many aspects of my life, because now, my WHOLE life depended on it. My relationship with myself, with how to handle stress, with food and with people, places and things had to be truly nourished. It was in those times I learned just how important making better behavioral choices were to living a healthy and happy life and how increasing resiliency and nurturing self-care was a necessity not a luxury like we’re so often told.
I still was making the wrong choices in so many aspects of my life that kept leading me to dead ends, addictions, overeating and sub-par living. While this site and the content and products will not solve all your problems, it will most certainly provide you with tangible ways to make your spirit, mind and body a little bit brighter and a whole lot more well. It will help you heal, grow and celebrate life in healthy ways instead of the negative choices we all sometimes make. It took me decades of personal research and now professional studies to finally find some real answers. The idea for WellSeekers came to me in 2013, when reaching out to a friend who had experienced loss and asked me for advice on different choices she could make to thrive in the face of adversity. My first thought was I wish I could send her a box that would help her make better choices and nurture her self-care. (A divinely inspired thought, I like to believe.) I knew that the lessons I had learned and that the advice, stories and products I had discovered needed to be made more accessible so others could also develop better coping skills, make better choices and nurture their own self-care in good times and in bad. Making changes, feeling more connected to yourself and others and enjoying life regardless of what you are facing is not only possible, it will happen with the help of WellSeekers – and we are not stopping until it does!
I know our culture is a little screwy, especially around, community, self-care and compassion. It doesn’t always want us to focus on getting well and taking care of ourselves and each other because when you are well you start to do well and that scares some people. But I want to be a scary person, don’t you? I want to be someone who challenges people to face their own fear, to make changes and to celebrate, nurture and heal themselves so we all can enjoy this one crazy life we have been gifted. I know from experience how hard it is to take time for yourself, but I also know from experience…it’s worth it.
